Letters and Sounds for Teaching Assistants

Course Aim: To support Teaching Assistants in developing an understanding of the Letters and Sounds phonics programme in order to support learning and teaching in schools.

Course Information: This course will provide you with an overview of Phases One to Five of the Letters and Sounds phonics programme.  Learners will develop an understanding of phonological awareness in order to support children’s development from Reception through to Year Six.

On completion of this course you will have:

  • Gained an overview of the importance of systematic high-quality phonics teaching.
  • Developed an understanding of the aims of each phase covered together with the teaching and assessment strategies used to ensure progression.
  • Identified a range of resources and activities designed to promote the teaching and assessment of phases one to five.

Suitable For:  Teaching Assistants and practitioners who are wishing to further their career or are currently studying towards Childcare qualifications.
