If I am a committee member at Playgroup, am I a trustee?
Yes. The Charity Commission booklet "The
Essential Trustee (CC3)" and "Summary
(CC3(a))" shows the main duties and responsibilities of charity
trustees.

Do we need to comply with the Data Protection Act?
Yes, but you may not need to join the Register.
It is important that you find out whether your setting is exempt, or whether
you need to notify and join the register, by contacting the Information
Commissioner's Office (ICO) Notification Department. Call the ICO
helpline on 08456 306060 or 01625 545740, email
notification@ico.gsi.gov.uk
, look at the website www.ico.gov.uk or
write to the Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe house, Water Lane,
Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF. Recent contact (Spring 2009) with the
notification helpline suggests that playgroups and other early years settings
are likely to need to register and pay the annual fee of £35. Useful booklets
such as "Brief Guide to Notification" and "Getting it Right - a brief guide to
data protection for small businesses" are available, follow the link
