Adult and community education is at the heart of PATA training.
Our high-quality training programme supports:

  • volunteers managing voluntary community provision – supporting the work of committees

  • staff – supporting and managing the day-to-day activities of childcare settings

  • parents and carers – supporting the growing and changing needs of young families

Toddler training workshops include:

  • Toddlers ‘Up & Running’ – for those already running or hoping to start a toddler group

Committee and Management Group Support Sessions  Just had your AGM? New to the committee? These informal 2 hour modules are designed to give confidence to carry out the roles of the voluntary management committee. Modules cover committee roles and responsibilities, finance and funding, policies and procedures, employing staff, marketing your setting. PATA Introduction to Children’s Play  This updated 10 week course (2 hour sessions) is a "hands on" practical course looking at play from the child's perspective.  The course is for parents and carers to develop play with their children and for those who are considering working with children. More details click on full programme above.  If you want to print the booking form click here

NEW!  Working with Children  PATA is pleased to offer this NEW and exciting 6 week course (2 hour sessions), following on from our well established and successful Introduction to Children's Play.  The course provides excellent underpinning knowledge for those wanting to work with children and gives options and opportunities for future training. More details click on full programme above.  If you want to print the booking form click here

Short courses – For parents/carers or as professional development for experienced childcare staff, these workshops or courses are from 2 - 8 hours on a variety of topics such as Messy Play, Healthy Eating, Basic First Aid Awareness for Parents/Carers, Music, Toddlers Up & Running, Yoga, Child Development, Observation Skills, Play.  Previously, topics have included Schemas, New Partner - New Family, Different Communities Living Together, Makaton, Outdoor Play, Children Who Have Family in Prison, Winston's Wish. National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) in Children’s Care, Learning and Development (CCLD).  These nationally recognised qualifications at levels 2, 3 and 4 are delivered by PATA's Assessment & Training Centre (A&TC) through 1 and 2 year programmes. Training is available to PATA members at preferential rates: parents, carers, committee, staff and volunteers from PATA member settings are themselves PATA members.

We continually review and develop the courses on offer and welcome suggestions.
