Introduction to Characteristics of Effective Learning

Course Aim: This introductory course offers an overview of the characteristics of effective learning.

Course Information: The EYFS defines Characteristics of Effective learning as

  • Playing and exploring - children investigate and experience things, and 'have a go'
  • Active learning - children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements
  • Creating and thinking critically - children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things

This course will provide guidance for practitioners and key persons about what the characteristics are and how observations and assessments can link to these, as well as EYFS areas.
