Roles and Responsibilities: Key facts for your Committee

Course Aim: Are you a Committee member or a Senior Member of Staff and would like some guidance and support with understanding the role of the committee?  This course will provide committee members with the confidence to manage, influence, challenge and support their playgroup, pre-school or out-of-school setting. It will also provide an insight into the Committee's role for any Senior Member of staff with a view to understanding and respecting one another's roles.

Course Information: The two relaxed and informative sessions are ideal for all new and experienced committee members and/or setting managers to exchange ideas and feel more confident in their role.

The sessions will:

  • Give an overview of a committee’s roles and responsibilities
  • Provide the tools needed to tackle unexpected and/or challenging issues - for instance: management concerns, complaint handling, safeguarding issues, Ofsted visits.
  • Have a chance for questions and answers from staff from our Support for Settings Team who also have extensive experience as a committee chairperson and as a manager of an early years setting.

Suitable For: Those involved in managing and leading settings – parents, committee members and managers.

We would strongly encourage both a committee member and senior member of staff to attend these courses (ideally together on the same date). Whilst this course is entitled ‘Roles and Responsibilities: Key Facts for your Committee’ the emphasis of the course is on both the committee and senior staff working together and respecting and understanding each other’s roles, so we feel it is important and beneficial for both committee and senior members of staff to attend if possible.

Delivered by:  Debs Adams and Michelle King. Debs worked for PATA for over 10 years in a supporting membership role and has extensive knowledge of charity governance and compliance. Michelle is a PATA Early Years Support Officer and she previously spent 12 years as an early years educator,  5 years of this time as a setting manager.  Between them they draw upon their differing specialisms to offer support and guidance.
