The EYFS Statutory Framework states 'Providers must provide access to an outdoor play area. If that is not possible, they must ensure that outdoor activities are planned and taken on a daily basis (unless circumstances make this inappropriate, for example unsafe weather conditions). Providers must follow their legal responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 (for example, the provisions on reasonable adjustments).'
Each season presents unique opportunities for children to learn outdoors, actively learning and playing and exploring the changes as they occur in the natural world. The winter months can bring challenges (in terms of the weather) but also some fabulous opportunities including learning about nature, frost, ice and snow. Spring helps us to continue to explore plants, birds and animals, etc as the weather starts to warm up.
