'Working towards Anti-racist Practice in the Early Years Setting’ with The Black Nursery Manager

Embedding cultures and diversity within an early years setting is a vital part of the EYFS. Children and their families will feel valued by the setting if resources and displays represent the ethnic, cultural and social diversity in society, and if they can see their own family background and culture represented as well as those of others. True inclusion means your setting will have diversity running through its core regardless of your current make-up of families on role.

Course Aim: To promote inclusive practice in the Early Years (under 5's) education sector, with a particular focus on how race, culture and anti-racism should be considered in this practice.

Course Information:  This 3 part course is aimed at practitioners who would describe themselves as beginners in the area of anti-racist practice. Much of the information is very broad and is not just Early Years specific, it can be applied to Reception Teachers, Learning and Participation Artists who work in schools, Youth Workers, Social Workers etc. 

Session 1 (2nd November) Exploring key terminology in anti-racist practice including: white supremacy, white fragility, gaslighting and anti blackness. Defining racism and examining how it can show up in your practice and building confidence to ensure that practice always works towards being inclusive and culturally sensitive.

Session 2 (9th November) Understanding allyship, how to effectively challenge racism as a white person whilst creating safe spaces for Black and non-Black people of colour and also exploring unconscious bias.

Session 3 (16th November) How your resources should be audited to ensure anti-racist practice in the setting , engaging parents, carers and extended family in anti-racist practice  and whole team approaches to continuously work towards an anti-racist environment.

Suitable For: Anyone working with children under the age of 5.

• Please note zoom invitations will be sent out 24 hours before the course/meeting starts. We are unable to send out zoom invitations until your invoice has been settled. 
• Payment is required within 7 days of the invoice date or 24 hours before a course/meeting starts (whichever is sooner). If payment cannot be made within this timeframe then please email training@pataglos.org.uk to agree an extension to your payment deadline, otherwise, your place on the course may be cancelled.
